Sketchbook drawings

Here are some of my favourite drawings from my sketchbook that developed to inspire my final collection!

Needle punching and heat setting

To experiment more I punched wool, silk and polypropylene together. The wool and silk were punched onto the outside of the polypropylene which is a heat setting fabric. Once all three layers had been punched together I gathered one sample with thread and the other with dress pins to compare the outcome. The samples where then put in a oven for the required time and temperature. The results were very interesting with their textures changing and shrinking as well as the handle of the fabric changing.

 

Needle Punching

During my first semester of fourth year I had an innovation project to complete. I chose to push my process and fabric I was using by creating new and interesting textures to print onto. I created these new textiles by experimenting with a needle punch machine to combine fabrics and colours.

 

Semester one

I feel terrible for neglecting my blog all semester! Things have been CRAZY! I shall post some pictures soon and update the site.  It's the Christmas holidays now so relax for a few days then start thinking of next semester! I'm really not used to the lack of work!  My capsule collection is finished, my innovation project is finished, marketing complete and my cashmere project successfully won.......so today I think I do deserve that massage at three o'clock.

Week three

The pattern development begins! :) I spent most of my time living in the CAD lab and setting up my very own at home in my room! Bought a graphics tablet...amazing!

Week two

Week two was about working into line drawings and developing my colour.  The idea was to build up the flowers in layers on Photoshop to come up with something exciting.  Nothing better than playing around and developing designs :)

Week one

Week one I started by drawing my flowers, this developed well but did feel a bit ah about drawing.  These developed into precise and tight line drawings that I then placed on black backgrounds.  This really helped me to focus on the shape of the flower and how it would develop into pattern. Thinking of colour and application I decided to keep the tight line drawings but also have watercolour flowers as well to make sure there would be a variety within my collection.
